On Saturday 30th March, the Durham Tigers open age team had their first match of the season with a friendly against Whitley Bay Barbarians.
The match started with both teams playing set-for-set for about 10 minutes, until the Tigers scored their first try, followed closely with a try from the Barbarians.
The Tigers were really on form with very strong defence and attack. The Barbarians were also playing some excellent attacking rugby, but the tigers obviously had the upper hand, which manifested itself in the final score: 30-8 to the Tigers.
The team’s coach, Steve Morley said, “It was so good to see the lads play this well, it just shows that our comprehensive training over the winter and the appointment of new coaches has paid off. If Saturday’s result is anything to go by, this season should be thrilling.”
“If you would like to find out more about the club or its fixtures,” said Phil Selby, “you can either like ‘We Are Durham Tigers’ on Facebook, call us on 07949 706 546 or just turn up at Sunnydale Leisure Centre, Shildon and enquire there.”
