Strictly sparkle to brighten up County Durham

2018 Strictly Come Dancing contestant and star of Red Dwarf Danny John-Jules is performing at the Gala Theatre in Durham on Monday 28 October

With Strictly Come Dancing now in full swing, the Gala Theatre has lined up three fab-U-lous shows that will keep the party going long after the coveted glitter ball trophy is raised.

The Durham City venue will welcome professional dancers and stars of the popular BBC One programme Ian Waite, Vincent Simone and Giovanni Pernice to the region next spring.

But if you cannot wait that long for live Strictly action, 2018 contestant and star of Red Dwarf Danny John-Jules will be performing at the Gala on Monday 28 October at 7.30pm.

Danny will return to his musical theatre roots for the show and will prove he is still “the coolest cat in town” as he takes audiences on a journey through the life of showbiz icon Sammy Davis Junior. The Death in Paradise star will sing some of Sammy’s best-known hits and perform slick dance routines.

Tickets cost £29 or £27 for concessions.

Strictly favourite Giovanni is also set to dazzle audiences with his new show This is Me, which comes to the Gala Theatre on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 March at 7.30pm

Featuring plenty of the Italian’s natural charm, combined with beautiful choreography and a fabulous soundtrack, This is Me pays homage to the music and dances that have inspired Giovanni’s career.

Tickets cost £32, £30 for concessions and £65 for meet and greet.

Vincent Simone, left, and Ian Waite will return to the Gala Theatre in Durham in May with the Ball Room Boys

Ian Waite and Vincent Simone, meanwhile, will return to the region on Thursday 28 May at 7.30pm. Tickets are now on sale for the Ball Room Boys – ACT TWO and audiences can look forward to a night of good old-fashioned variety, featuring dance, comedy, music and beautiful costumes.

Earlier this year, the dancing duo’s first collaboration was a big hit at the Gala and they cannot wait to entertain fans with even more wonderful routines and laughter next year.

Tickets cost £31 or £29 for concessions, with a special meet and greet package available for £57.

Robin Byers, Gala Theatre manager, said: “Strictly is gripping the nation right now and we can’t wait to see who lifts the glitter ball trophy.

“We are delighted to welcome Ian, Vincent, Giovanni and Danny to County Durham. We expect demand for these shows to be high so I would encourage you to book your tickets now to avoid missing out.”
