Bowling Club awarded grant

A grant of £500 has been awarded to Bishop Auckland Bowling Club from the Town Council’s Community Fund.

Town Mayor, Councillor Joy Allen presented the grant to the club on Monday 24th June.

The funds will be put towards the purchase of a new lawnmower and leaf blower to maintain the bowling green.

Bishop Auckland Bowling Club has over thirty members who take part in weekly training sessions and compete in the South West Durham Veterans Bowling League.

The club is encouraging players of all ages and abilities, including young people, to join and share their enjoyment of the game.

Bob Webster, the club’s chairman said: “I would like to thank the Town Council for granting us this award.

“It will help the club maintain what we feel is an important recreational facility, which can benefit both young and old in our local community.”

The Town Council has allocated up to £5,000 to support local organisations working for the benefit of the residents of Bishop Auckland.

Community groups and local charities are invited to apply for grants of up to £500.
