Bondgate Gallery, situated in historic Fore Bondgate, recently featured a vibrant and colourful Summer Flower Explosion exhibition by resident artist, Eric Thompson.
The mixed media exhibition included original acrylics on canvas, original water colours and limited edition prints.
Eric said: “ The exhibition came about because some of my art class students regularly pester me to do some flower paintings in the classroom and I also wanted to create some different art for the gallery.
“I didn’t want to paint classic flower art so I decided to do more abstract work on larger canvasses using acrylics and palette knives to create more vibrant work as well as painting some watercolours in more detail.
The preview evening was a great success and Eric and his daughter, Lynn Talbot, who manages the gallery, enjoyed speaking with existing and new customers who visited the colourful exhibition over two floors.
Lynn said: “We like being in Bishop Auckland and our gallery is now in its eleventh year here. Following on from this my dad has been exploring his impressionist side using vibrant colours.
“The new paintings will be launched at the Future of Fore Bondgate Street Party on Saturday 31st August, which will run from 1pm until 6pm. We hope people come along to the party and support local independent businesses, and hopefully pop in to the gallery at the same time.”
Cllr Joy Allen, Chair of Bishop Auckland and Coundon in Bloom said: “When we heard about the exhibition, bloom members couldn’t wait to visit the gallery and see Eric’s beautiful floral pictures for themselves.
“We are certainly lucky to have such great independent businesses trading in our town.”
Anyone who was unable to get to the exhibition can view and buy paintings and prints from the Bondgate Gallery website.
