Les and Sandra celebrate Golden anniversary

Les and Sandra Brown of Stanhope Close, Ferryhill were visited by Ferryhill Mayor, Cllr John Lindsay and his consort, Linda bearing gifts last week.

Representing Ferryhill Town Council, the Mayor and his consort presented Sandra with a bouquet of flowers and Les with a crystal tumbler to mark their Golden wedding anniversary on Saturday 18th November.

Les was born in Stockton in 1945 while Sandra, born in 1948 is from Middleton One Row. The couple met at the Gaiety Dance in Ferryhill.

When Les left school, he started at Wm Hutchinson in Newton Aycliffe as an apprentice electrician.

After becoming time served, he worked as a contract electrician at home, abroad in several countries including South Africa, France and Belgium and also off shore. He also worked in the South of England and in later years in Teesside.

Sandra started at Smart & Brown after leaving school and then at GEC where she worked for the next 25 years.

She moved on to work at Aycliffe Hospital and then Woodham Lodge Care Home before retiring.

The couple have one daughter, Jillian and two sons, Ian and Andrew, all of whom live locally.

Their children have borne them seven grandchildren aged from eight to 25 years.

After getting married, the couple moved to Lime

Road and then Raby Road where they spent the next 42 years before moving 18 months ago to Stanhope Close.

The couple both liked socialising by visiting the club and also enjoy their holidays, travelling to mainland Spain, Majorca and Thailand.

Sandra used to knit and crochet while the couple also love gardening and have an allotment in Dean Bank, which is now run by their grandson, Jack.

The family celebrated the occasion with a special party at Mainsfort CC last Saturday evening.
